About Us

Our team started working on remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs) under the ITU Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering in 2016. In order to combine their 2-year experience in underwater robotics with autonomous technologies, the team was established as ITU AUV Team in 2018.

The ITU AUV Team, which has achieved great success in competitions it has participated in Turkey and abroad, has set its main goal as representing our country and our university in the best way possible in various AUV competitions to be held in Singapore, Italy and the United States.

RoboSub 2026

First held in 1997 at TRANSDEC, a facility of the United States Navy located in San Diego, California, RoboSub is the world's most prestigious autonomous underwater vehicle competition. The competition is organized by AUVSI and RoboNation.

As the ITU AUV Team, we continue our preparations for RoboSub 2026, drawing strength from our previous achievements. Our goal is to further advance our engineering capabilities and to represent our country at the highest level on the international stage.

TAC Challenge 2026

TAC Challenge is a prestigious autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) competition organized by the Tau Autonomy Center in Norway, aiming to evaluate advanced perception, decision-making, and mission planning capabilities of autonomous underwater systems.

As the ITU AUV Team, we aim to participate in TAC Challenge 2026. By transferring our international competition experience and engineering expertise to this platform, we seek to further advance our technical capabilities and take ourselves one step forward.

Teknofest 2026

As the ITU AUV Team, we are actively working to participate in the TEKNOFEST 2026 Unmanned Underwater Systems Advanced Category.

Our goal is to take part in TEKNOFEST 2026 with a stronger presence by leveraging our accumulated experience and engineering expertise, and to achieve a competitive ranking once again.

RoboSub 2025

As the ITU AUV Team, we achieved 3rd place worldwide at RoboSub 2025, competing among 58 teams from 9 different countries, marking a significant international achievement driven by our previous successes.

Within the scope of RoboSub missions, the vehicles are expected to successfully perform complex tasks such as autonomous gate traversal, vision-based target and object detection, acoustic communication, random pinger detection and localization, torpedo launching, manipulation, and autonomous transitions between missions.

Teknofest 2025

As the ITU AUV Team, we achieved 3rd place in the Advanced Category of the TEKNOFEST 2025 Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Competition, and we were also awarded the "Most Innovative Software" honorable mention thanks to the software architecture and algorithmic approach of the autonomous systems we developed.

RoboSub 2024

In 2024, at the 27th RoboSub competition organized by AUVSI and RoboNation, the ITU AUV Team achieved great success with our vehicle Taluy and our dedicated team. We were awarded first place in the Technical Presentation category, third place in the Technical Documentation category, and as the only team capable of completing two tasks simultaneously, we received the Best Performing Vehicle award. These achievements once again demonstrated our team's engineering competence and innovative approach to autonomous systems.

RAMI Competition

The RAMI Competition, held for the first time in the city of La Spezia, Italy in 2022, is a competition consisting entirely of autonomous tasks that encompass challenging missions difficult for operators to perform. The competition takes place in open water in La Spezia. With various demanding tasks involving variable depths, currents, and murky water, the competition expects the underwater vehicles to observe a leaking pipe and repair it autonomously.

The competition, which mainly hosts teams from European countries at the graduate level, saw ITU AUV Team's participation in 2023, where they finished 2nd and were awarded the Best Technical Presentation Award.

Singapore AUV Challenge

The Singapore AUV Challenge (SAUVC), first organized in 2013, is a competition aimed at bringing together different disciplines to produce robots capable of performing autonomous tasks in challenging underwater conditions.

The ITU AUV Team competed in 2022 with 42 different AUV teams from 19 countries as the only team representing Turkey, and achieved World Championship by becoming the winner.

RoboSub 2021

The competition, which was first held in 1997 at the TRANSDEC owned by the United States Navy in San Diego, California, is the world's most prestigious autonomous underwater competition. It is organized by the AUVSI association and Robonation.

In 2021, we represented our country and university in the international underwater robotics community as the only team from Turkey participating in RoboSub2021, which was held online due to the COVID outbreak.

Teknofest

Our team received the Most Innovative Design Award, which is one of the honorable mentions given due to the inability to give ranking awards, in the Unmanned Underwater Systems competition at Teknofest 2021. There were three main reasons for being worthy of this award, which were the mechanical system, system design, and algorithm design.
